Briton's Growing Greener
Added: (Mon Oct 29 2007)
Today, Grownupgreen published the first part of its Lifestyle Survey results, looking at sustainability issues such as buying Faitrade products, transport and housing. Over 700 people have taken part in this important survey.
Dr Jill Mordaunt, Chair of Projects in Partnership (Grownupgreen’s parent charity) asks that more grownupgreen vistors & supporters think about registerering to take the survey: ‘It doesn’t take very long; and it will certainly help you see how sustainably you are living. What’s more, you can take the test time after time, to see if you sustainability rating is improving, which makes it a helpful education tool; and very useful for target setting on greener living’.
For example, choosing to use public transport over private means (such as driving your car) can reduce your impact on the environment. Grownupgreen asked : ‘how often does a member of your household use public transport in place of private transport’? Thirty-one percent of you commute daily on public transport; but forty two percent of you only do so occasionally, if at all. This may be affected by the range; and routes of public transport options available to you across the country.
On Fairtrade, only 19% of Grownupgreen's respondents always buy Fairtade products but 48% do so on an occasional basis. Grownupgreen wants to look at how to encourage more people to think about buying Fairtrade on a more regular basis; and whether this would contribute to a 'greener' lifestyle.
The survey is still available to rtake on line at the grownupgreen website. Dr Mordaunt is eager for more web vistors to grownupgreen to take the Lifestyle Challenge: ‘the more grownupgreen supporters take the surveys, the more meaningful the overall results become; and we can tailor information and resources on the grownupgreen website so that people can learn more about sustainable living’.
Note to editors:
Grownupgreen has been created by Charity Projects in Partnership.
Grownupgreen recognises that it’s not easy being green... its object is to advance public education in environmental matters. we believe that such education is essential if people are to live more sustainable lives.
Our vision is a web-based community of practice, exchanging and accessing information so that people have a better undertsanding of sustainable living; and can make informed choices to change the way they live.
We recognise that there are uncertainties about all aspects of sustainability, and we will be honest in acknowledging conflicting views and allowing them to be aired. we encourage debate.
All of the content on grownupgreen will be used. We are building an archive based on the contributions to the site. this is an accessible and well-sign-posted body of information relevant to people’s everyday choices in such matters as energy use, waste, transport and shopping.
Grownupgreen will publish part 2 of the Lifetsyle Survey results next month, concentrating on recycling and rubbish collection.
