APlusA.org.uk serves customers globally, (and boasts an equally international professional writing staff). Francophone clients, the world over, are a welcome and significant source of business. To celebrate this, we will devote a month to an onsite French cultural immersion experience. APlusA.org.uk finds these cross-cultural activities and events enrich our staff, increasing our writers’ flexibility and scope.
French once was, literally, the lingua franca. Is it still important? Well, even in North America, we have the Quebecois, and their ancien cousins, the Acadians, or Cajuns, sharing and preserving francophonie. At least 18 African countries retain French as an official language. There are at least half a dozen such, outside of Africa. Many other countries use French secondarily. All these places put a unique spin on French culture.
APlusA.org.uk offices will francophonically transformed. Signs and labels in French, French pop music in the air, French magazines scattered about, and French TV programs, all create atmosphere. Several useful presentations are planned;
French history
History of former French colonies
Development of the French language
Commission Generale de Terminologie et de Neologie
Local variants, including youth “backslang”, and Creole
It won’t all be lectures, however. At mealtimes, staff will sample French cheeses of both the fermier and artisanal types, paired with baguette, and fruit. After melting smelly, delicious Raclette, eaten properly with cornichon pickles, and cooked potatoes, the toaster oven may never be the same again! At each shift’s end (APlusA.org.uk is, after all, a 24/7 operation for global customer service!) staffers may taste French wines such as Bordeaux, and Pinot Noir.
Alternately, we will taste Quebecois cheeses (e.g., Bleu Benedictine), paired with fresh Canadian fruit. For dessert, we’ll sample Canadian maple syrup products, including maple candy. Opportunities to taste the Cajun tradition will feature morning beignets and coffee with chickory, gumbo, etouffee, and boudin. We will sample to the sounds of Cajun fiddle and accordion music.
To complete the picture, staffers will taste foods from French-influenced former colonies, such as Haiti. Francophone world music will accompany these events.
