'How To Be A Good Guest' By Award Winning Wedding Planners

Added: (Sun Feb 26 2006)

As the summer wedding season approaches, the award winning planners at TK Weddings find that they are contacted more and more by guests worrying over dress codes, gifts and etiquette. Company directors Tamryn Kirby and Beverly Pearce have recently been re-christened ‘the Trinny and Susannah of weddings’ after their win at The Wedding Awards 2006 and are all too aware of the potential problems faced by guests. “Weddings can be real minefields for everyone,” says Tamryn “and with the trend for more unusual and complicated events, it’s no wonder that people need some reassurance.”

One of the questions that the duo find most frequently in their e-mail inboxes is the age old favourite of ‘Is white alright?’ “It’s not unusual to see brides in colours other than white but there’s still a stigma attached to the prospect of a guest turning up in a full white outfit,” says Bev, “But there is a difference between wearing a white trouser suit with bold colourful accessories and a coloured top than arriving in a floor length white dress, complete with jewelled headband.” TK Weddings’ advice would always be to check invitations for any note of a dress code or to ask the bride for some guidance before splashing out on a new outfit. The average guest spends around £100 on new clothes for a wedding so they should be sure that their choice of couture isn’t going to mean the end of a friendship!

The rise in the popularity of internet based gift lists has also caused more than a few headaches for guests as Tamryn and Beverly well know. “Many people still want to take a present along to the wedding but of course, that completely defies the point of the internet list,” explains Tamryn. “Guests may well think that they’re being polite by bringing a different gift but it is considered bad form to go ‘off piste’ when a couple has taken the time to set up a list.” Additionally, with so many couples jetting straight off on honeymoon, how practical will it be for them to get that cut crystal punch bowl home again?!

The team at TK doesn’t forget guests when they plan weddings so that everyone can relax and enjoy the day without worry. “We put together information packs for guests giving them all the essential details,” says Tamryn “We offer unlimited e-mail support to them so if they have queries about the dress code, gift list or even things like taxi availability and baby changing facilities, we can tell them everything they need to know.” This also has benefits for the bride and groom as Beverly explains: “Couples want to enjoy every moment. They don’t want to know that Aunt Phyllis couldn’t get booked into a local hotel and because we deal with that, they get a stress free wedding and the guests are happy too.”

It’s clear that although the focus of the day is undoubtedly the bride and groom, guests certainly have a huge part to play in making the day a success and with TK Weddings’ help, amazing wedding days are guaranteed.

Notes for editors – TK Weddings was founded in 2003 and now comprises of a team of nine working on weddings around the UK but focussing on the South. Prices start at £100 for venue decoration & supplier sourcing and £260 for their famous ‘wedding day co-ordination service’. This year the team will be a part of around one hundred weddings, large and small, traditional and contemporary. They are heavily featured in the upcoming Discovery Channel series ‘The Wedding Planners’ and the forthcoming book ‘Tamryn Kirby’s Wedding Secrets’ is published by Foulsham in May. The team was honoured at The Wedding Awards in February 2006 when they were voted ‘Best Wedding Planners’ by a panel of industry experts.
