CROCS IN THE LUANGWA VALLEY

Norwegian police are searching for a thief who walked out of Bergen Aquarium unnoticed with a crocodile under his arm. The stolen reptile, named Taggen (Spike), a 70cm Smooth-fronted Caiman - one of the world’s smallest, eats 'a good mix of fish and meat' and has a 'solid bite'… The aquarium's director, Mr Ekeli, has offered a reward of 25,000 Norwegian crowns (£2,500), for information leading to the recovery of 4-year-old Taggen, feared to die from stress outside the aquarium. Tailor-made natural history specialist Wildlife Worldwide offers the chance to observe the world’s second largest crocodile amongst the stress-free wilderness of Zambia’s Luangwa Valley. The 11-day Leopards of Luangwa tour, based at Kapani Lodge, the former home of Zambia’s father of conservation, Norman Carr, departs Heathrow twice a week from June to October 2008.

The holiday is based amongst 9,050 square kilometres of Zambia’s renowned South Luangwa National Park with accommodation at Kapani Lodge, once home of Zambia’s most famous conservationist, the late Norman Carr, and its satellite bush camps of Luwi, Nsolo, Mchenja and Kakuli. On booking guests may choose how to divide their time between the main lodge and the remote 6–8 bed bush camps, each located in a different habitat. Experience the rich wildlife viewing opportunities of the broad banks of the Luangwa River, the edge of open grassland or mopane woodland close to a waterhole. Enjoy expertly guided walking safaris – something for which the Luangwa is renowned, morning and afternoon game drives and night-time safaris with spotlights. Luangwa Valley offers a rich diversity of wildlife and in particular, is home to Africa’s highest naturally occuring Leopard population as well as a significant number of Nile Crocodile. Of 60 other resident mammal species recorded, Lion, Elephant, Giraffe, Hippo and Cookson’s Wildebeest feature high on the list together with an exciting array of over 420 birds including some of southern Africa’s most colourful species.

The holiday costs from £3,150 p/p (June departures) including scheduled international and regional flights, lodge or bush-camp accommodation with all meals and drinks, expertly guided game viewing, transfers and all National Park entry fees.
