Wine Podcast Tops iTunes Charts

Added: (Mon Nov 20 2006)

The UK Wine Show is the top wine podcast in the UK iTunes charts and second only to Jamie Oliver's podcast in the food category. The charts are based on the number of new subscriptions and updated daily. Since the show launched in June 2006 (the UK's first podcast about wine), Chris Scott, founder of ThirtyFifty, the wine tasting company, has recorded 24 weekly
shows with a variety of people from across the wine industry.

The show's format includes an interview and weekly wine news from around the world. "The show's popularity reflects its content and relevance for British consumers. As well as news hot industry topics are featured and while the show is focused on the UK we cover the whole wine world", says
Chris "The interviews are wide-ranging. We get under the skin of the wine industry to give listeners a good overview of latest trends. If it's about wine we cover it, combining technical information with human-interest stories."
In this week's podcast (live from Friday 17th November), Oz Clarke is interviewed, ahead of his new BBC TV series 'Oz and James's Big Wine Adventure'. Future podcasts include interviews with Matthew Jukes and Matt Skinner and topics such as wine storage and wine education. To listen to

Background on Chris Scott

Born in Otago, New Zealand in 1971 Chris watched the New Zealand wine industry 'grow up' in the 1980s and explode in the 1990s. His first contact with the industry was winter pruning in Canterbury, New Zealand whilst studying for his engineering degree. He graduated with first class
honours.
He moved to England in 2001. In 2002 he began studying wine with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and set up ThirtyFifty. The concept for the business was to demystify wine, bringing it to people in their own homes by making wine tastings no-nonsense and fun. With his engineering background he has a scientific and sensory approach to wine - he likes taking a complex subject
and simplifying it to a basic level. ThirtyFifty wine tastings have proved increasingly popular with groups of friends with an interest in wine who want to be entertained and educated. Chris calls it education by stealth!

From early days in the London area, Chris has rolled ThirtyFifty out across England. To date more than 8000 people have shared in a ThirtyFifty wine experience. The company is on track to double this number in 2006. In June 2006 Chris launched the UK's first wine podcast - The UK Wine Show
- and in October 2006 Chris was one of the experts at The Wine Show at the Islington Design Centre, London.
