Why bury your old books or even burn them?

Added: (Sat May 09 2009)

Many charity shops have a surplus of old and unwanted books some of which end up on landfill or are incinerated. Rebound Books, based in Lancashire, intervene by recycling these unwanted books into journals, notebooks and diaries.
Rebound Books is a small family business who convert books that are destined for landfill into a range of creative and quirky stationary. They not only use the covers of the book, but take a selection of original pages, illustrations, or even a choice chapter and intersperse them between the blank pages. These books are all wire bound allowing them to lay flat, ideal as sketchpads or single hand use.
Jen Mac Connell, an avid recycler, describes her passion for saving these discarded books. “By taking unwanted books and keeping their inherent charm we recreate the discarded into something that will be used and treasured. We are environmentally aware and always use reclaimed paper, even our machinery is muscle powered!”
Rebound Books sell their books online at reboundbooks.co.uk. Customised diaries, journals and even bookmarks (made out of the original spines) can be ordered . Old books can be sent to Rebound Books to be converted.
