Vacation Rentals Abroad Threatened by Weak British Currency

The state of the British pound is currently threatening the future of vacation rentals abroad. Recent studies by the World Travel Market have revealed that a third of all British holidaymakers surveyed now take the poor sterling exchange rate into account when selecting their vacation rental destination.
Interestingly, the number of tourists that did not worry about the weak British currency decreased, with 44% of holidaymakers unconcerned as opposed to over 75% this time last year. Travellers between the age of 25 and 40 appear to be the most concerned about the situation, with 38% influenced by exchange rates as opposed to 19% of over 60’s.
With holidaymakers getting very little for their money at present, the situation is making Britons think twice about making their move across Europe.
World Travel Market Chairman, Fiona Jeffery admitted: “The worsening exchange rate is a serious threat to the UK outbound travel industry.
“Many British holidaymakers may find the in resort costs – especially within the eurozone – far too high.”
There is a positive to be found amongst this financial uncertainty, with more British families set to enjoy British vacation rentals within their own borders. With the added bonus of avoiding airport and long-haul travel dramas, people can relax and appreciate some of Britain’s most quintessential vacation rental destinations.
Areas such as south-west England, east England and south-east England boast glorious holiday amenities, with bustling beaches and waterfronts.
Jeffrey said: “On the flip side, it has the potential to give the UK industry a real boost as the UK becomes a very cost effective country to visit, especially for those countries within the eurozone.”
Vacation rental owners abroad will be hoping that the British pound negotiates its way to financial recovery sooner rather than later to attract holidaymakers back to their favourite haunts from years gone by.
