Using Camcorders

Added: (Fri May 02 2008)

So you finally bit the bullet and bought a camcorder. Well done! Now you only have to learn to use it properly. Some tips to guide you into clear sailing with your camcorder are similar to the use of a digital camera. For instance, you need to remember to have your batteries fully charged, have spare ones handy, and make sure there is plenty of tape or hard disc space so you don't run out.

Add to this some safety hints like taking along a roll of plastic food wrap in case of showers and adding your lens cleaner to your list of things to take and you shouldn't have too much trouble. But talking of lens cleaner reminds us that many different lens and lens filters are available for different situations. So if you familiarise yourself with them, you'll improve your movies by a great deal. If you also learn how to handle all those advance features like exposure, white balance and manual focus you'll be able to handle all those tricky light situations and get really arty with your footage.

You'll have noticed that your camcorder has an inbuilt light. This drains the batteries very quickly so if you don't use it you'll not only save on batteries, but your subjects won't look so washed out.
