Two thousand mini-brothels actively operate in London

Pressbox (Press Release) - In detailed statistical and field research over two years, Roving Husband has pieced together the way female escorts operate business. Things have changed radically over the last five years.

There are at least two thousand mini-brothels in London. Most have two, three or four working female escorts. Police leave them alone, unless local residents complain, in which case they simply move on to a new apartment.

He says: "Typically, female escorts take out a short-term let on a residential apartment. The apartments are often furnished to a low standard, but are reasonably maintained. There will usually be two or three escorts, often from Eastern Europe, sometimes from other countries."

The escorts advertise on websites, where they set out what sort of sex they offer, what they charge, and a cellphone number. The location is only disclosed when a customer rings, which means that the escorts can move to a new apartment at any time without disrupting their business.

Roving Husband says: "Most escorts speak English poorly, but there will be one whose English is good enough to take calls on behalf of all the escorts, and make appointments."

From analyzing activity on various websites, it is clear that there are at least ten thousand escorts working in London, and the vast majority work in this way.

Roving Husband says: "Working in mini-brothels means that the escorts are safe. There is no need for a pimp. Over two years of speaking to escorts, I have never noticed signs of coercion. They are escorts as a matter of choice."

Often the escorts are in London because more money can be earned. Many send the money to families at home, and use budget airlines to return home periodically.

Roving Husband says: "Often a mini-brothel will have a reasonably high level of turnover as some escorts return to their countries, and new ones join. The person who signed the original lease is often long gone. As long as the rent is paid, the landlord often has no idea about what is going on."

Roving Husband says: "Most people think sex workers stand around street corners waiting for customers to turn up. But this view is very out-dated. Nearly all escorts work in mini-brothels."
