Truth and myths about winter tires

Winter tire is necessary attribute for your car during cold and snow period. One of the biggest advantages is increasing of safety on a road. Furthermore summer tires wear out faster than winter ones.
1st myth. Winter tire are too expensive
In real there is no big difference between price for winter tires and price for summer tires. Run of winter tires was increased due to using of new technologies. Also furl consuming was reduced.
2nd myth. Winter tires are not need if you don't live in region with roads always covered with snow and ice. Indeed winter tire increase safety on a road during any weather conditions. Winter tire can be used in autumn when risk of appearance of critical situations keeps growing. When road is slippery and frozen summer tires lose adhesion with a road due to its technologies. Modern winter tires provide good adhesion not only snow or ice road but on slush road. 3rd myth. Winter tires are inconvenient
In real winter tires provide comfortable driving on any road (or when they combine with as good as mercedes cars). But most part of driver don't feel this difference. Even speeding on a wet road is more convenient with winter tires.
4th myth. Characteristics of winter tires don't depend on groove depth
The more groove depth the more characteristics of winter tires. Groove depth is regulated by government in many european countries. It is recommended to use tires with groove depth 4mm or more.
5th myth. Winter tires show bad characteristics during high speeds.
Indeed modern winter tires give reliable driving on a high speed.
6th myth. Offroaders and 4x4 vehicles don't need winter tires
Heavy offroaders especially need winter tires (for example mercedes benz glk class). Because of big dimensions four wheels won't help on a snow or ice if car has summer tires.
7th myth. It doen't matter how to mount tires. It is recommended to mount only one kind and design of winter tire. Using different kinds of your tires can reflect on car movement on a road. It is not good to swap locations of winter tires. At the same time it will be better to install winter tires on raer axle and no matter if your car has front-wheel or rear-wheel drive.
8th myth. The newest summer tires are good for any winter conditins because of enough groove depth In real time winter tires show considerably better characteristics than summer ones. There are some technical features of winter tires which allow to have essential advantages: structure of grooves, spetial technologies and protector design. Thus car with winter tires has shorter braking distance than car with summer tires.
