Tips for Buying Property

Added: (Wed Apr 30 2008)

Buying a property can be a delight or a hassle - or both, at various times. You might decide to pick a fine, sunny day for your property inspections - at least you'll enjoy the weather. But just think what a rainy day could reveal. What if there are leaks in the ceiling or the guttering is rusted out? A rainy day is ideal for checking out these things. A hole in the guttering may not be seem a big deal, but when you see the run-off pouring down the wall, you'll know exactly what damage it has caused in the past and will go on causing until it is fixed.

Don't just check out the house itself; find out what is available in the neighbourhood. Will you need good schools, a medical centre, sporting or shopping facilities, transport or nightlife? Is there a park close by for the children to play in? Is the area a safe one, with the prices likely to increase in future years?

It's also a good idea to call on the neighbours and ask them what the neighbourhood is like. In this way, you'll get a first-hand recommendation and find out if they are the kinds of people you can be happy living next to. Once you decide on a home, always get pest inspections done before you sign anything.
