LAUNCH OF COLLECTION OF HANDMADE LUXURY WEDDING RING CUSHIONS

Belgian born, food stylist (Men’s Health, Carlsberg) and model (Renault Clio, Calendar Girls), Olivier Laudus launched his debut collection of handmade wedding ring cushions at the end of last year. The idea of creating a range of personalised luxury embroidered cushions came about when Olivier unsuccessfully searched for a luxury designer cushion for his own wedding in April 2002.

The initial response and sales since launch have been very positive and WeddingRingCushions attended the National Wedding Show in Olympia, London in February 2004, with a view to attending other wedding shows nationally throughout 2004. The debut collection can be seen on www.weddingringcushions.co.uk and a colour brochure will be available in the second half of the year.

Wedding ring cushions (or ring bearer cushions) are traditionally held by young children (either the ring bearer or flower girl) and carried up the aisle. The rings secured on the cushion will normally not be the actual wedding rings but instead the process is a symbolic one and is incredibly common in the US. On the continent however it is more common to see the ring cushion being used as part of the actual ring exchanging ceremony. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, it is traditionally the best man who keeps the rings but the use of a ring cushion as well has become increasingly popular.

Olivier’s ring cushions feature unique contemporary designs, using quality silks, satins and glass beading and Svarowski crystals. Although priced at the higher end of the market to reflect the time taken to create each cushion (beading of a cushion on average takes four to five hours), they are still affordable (for a limited period (until end of March 2004) all cushions except the limited edition will be priced at £79.99 (excluding post and packaging)).

The original collection which was mostly inspired from nature (e.g. “La Rosée” which means the morning dew in French) and from architecture (e.g. L’Arabesque which takes its inspiration from the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain).

Olivier has introduced three new designs to his collection featuring elements of bridal trends for 2004 (e.g. butterflies). Olivier has also recently launched a limited edition cushion using Swarovski crystal beads which is priced at £125.
