Save money during the Credit Crunch with Real Nappies

Pressbox (Press Release) -
The Used Nappy Company, the number one site in the UK to buy and sell second-hand washable nappies, is supporting the 13th annual Real Nappy Week, from April 27th - 3rd May. Owner and mum of two, Sarah Bennett, set up the auction site in April 2007 for parents to buy and sell second-hand washable nappies. To date, an astonishing 39,000 auctions have been listed on the site – www.usednappies.co.uk - helping parents to reuse and recycle washable nappies.
Many parents love the funky designs, the comfort factor for their babies and that washable nappies have been proved, without a doubt, to be better for the environment*. James considers this ‘a wonderful site - without it I would have nowhere else to sell these nappies. You're doing a first class job for buyers and sellers alike’.
Hundreds of businesses and organisations across the UK are involved in Real Nappy Week and events will be going on around the country to get the message across to parents that Real Nappies will save them around £500 per baby on nappy costs, and are very easy to use. One new nappy stockist, PlushPants, run by mum of 4 Christine McRitchie is running a promotion throughout Real Nappy Week where one in ten customers will be randomly chosen to win a full refund on their nappy order (full terms can be found on the PlushPants website, see www.plushpants.co.uk).
Christine says "Real Nappy Week is a great time to promote real nappy use and encourage parents to give them a go. The message this year is that real nappies save you money, especially useful in the current economic climate". Both Sarah and Christine say "We hope more parents will consider switching to reusable nappies, both to benefit the environment and their pockets".
Parents can now also sell baby/child/maternity clothes and other baby related items through The Used Nappy Company – it pays to be ‘green’ and recycle on www.usednappies.co.uk especially with fees considerably cheaper than some of the larger auction sites.
On an environmental note, the UK currently throws away a phenomenal 3 billion disposable nappies every year. They are estimated to weigh 690,000 tonnes most of which are landfilled where they generate methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

* Environment: Parents are recommended to wash soiled nappies in full loads at 60oC using low energy rated washing machines, allowing them to dry naturally wherever possible. Washable nappies do not need to be soaked prior to washing and do not need ironing. A recent Life Cycle Analysis from the Environment Agency states that washing with a full load, line drying and reusing nappies on a second child can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide used by 40% and therefore creating less CO2 than by using disposable nappies.
Women's Environmental Network is the only organisation in the UK working consistently for women and the environment. www.wen.org.uk
WRAP works in partnership to encourage and enable businesses and consumers to be more efficient in their use of materials and recycle more things more often. This helps to minimise landfill, reduce carbon emissions and improve our environment. www.wrap.org.uk
