Pressbox (Press Release) -
A UK supermarket first, Tesco.com has responded to customers’ concerns about the number of bags used in home delivery.
Tesco.com shoppers can now chose to have their groceries delivered (http://www.tesco.com/grocery/) without bags after making an order online. Customers, who select the delivery without bags option, will have their products delivered in stackable green trays to their kitchen tables or surface.
Bagless deliveries are just one of a series of initiatives being put in place by the retailer with the aim of reducing the number of carrier bags used by the nation, by 1 billion within the next year.
Tesco.com, which also offers the option to deliver to another address, will reward its customers who choose to go green and have a ‘Naked Delivery’ (http://www.tesco.com/deliverywithoutbags/) over carrier bags with additional Green Clubcard points.
Laura Wade-Gery, CEO, Tesco.com commented: “Delivery without bags is both a win for our customers and the environment. The initiative is part of the Tesco Community Plan work to minimise our impact on the environment and empowers our customers to make a positive environmental choice.
“Our Dotcom operation in the Republic of Ireland has been delivering successfully in this way for over two years. Following extensive trials in the UK and positive customer feedback we have made the decision to roll out the scheme across the whole of the UK.”
Notes: Tesco.com is the UK’s most popular online delivery service covering 98 per cent of the population. Tesco.com sells everything from books and CDs to furniture and holidays.
