Added: (Tue Nov 23 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Based in Muscatine, Iowa, HON is one of the top players in the office furniture industry, designing and producing all types of office furnishing, which include panel systems, chairs, desks and filing cabinets. The office furniture company provides consumers and retailers with a wide range of different cabinet models to accommodate nearly any office need, including vertical models, lateral models and compact pedestal models. With its efforts to become more Eco-friendly, the company employs less packaging content, minimizes the quantity of fabric waste, and utilizes recycled materials from other furniture. Today, HON file cabinets is proud to introduce their line of environmentally friendly file cabinets into the market.

Using Environmentally Friendly Materials

HON has conceptualized and produced an Eco-friendly material called the Nature CoreTM fiberboard. This is a non-woven composite material that carries a combination of synthetic and natural fibers. The natural fiber is referred to as kenaf, which comes from an annually renewable plant related to okra and cotton. It's a plant that grows incredibly fast (up to 12 to 14 feet in less than 6 months) and is able to produce 6 to 10 tons of dry fiber per acre annually.

HON was the first manufacturer to consider kenaf ideal for use in panel systems. The kenaf fibers are mixed with synthetic fibers and made into roll goods. These are then applied with patented smoke and flame retardants to make sure the product is in compliance with the UL Class A fire rating. No formaldehyde is incorporated and the materials in the fire retardants are natural.

The HON 400 Series 30-inch Wide Lateral File Cabinet

The 4-drawer lateral file cabinets by HON is in compliance with ANSI/BIFMA requirements and is considered a “green” product because chlorofluorocarbon emissions have been minimized by the company during the production process. The cabinet has 19-1/4-inch deep files with ball-bearing slide suspension drawers, 2 adjustable leveling glides, and side-to-side rails that support either letter or legal size hanging file folders. Its mechanical interlock enables only a single drawer to open at a time to prevent tipping.

The HON 510 Series Vertical File Cabinet With Lock

This 4-drawer HON vertical file cabinet with lock is certified by SCS to meet with specific indoor air quality emission standards. It is also known to exceed the requirements of ANSI/BIFMA and is comprised of 25 percent post-consumer recycled material. The commercial-grade vertical file drawer has heavy-duty steel, baked enamel finish, complete cradle suspension, and a maximum of 10 nylon rollers to maintain smooth and silent action, and a HON One Key interchangeable core lock that can be removed. The spring-incorporated follower blocks ensure that the files stay upright with positive side action placement. High drawer sides support hanging folders without the need for hang-rails.

These are just some of HON's Eco-friendly file cabinets now selling to the environmentally conscious. As long as paper stays a part of the business world, manufacturers will continue producing filing cabinets. HON file cabinets is one of the first to obtain certification for products under the level™ certification program, continuously meeting the BIFMA e3 Sustainability Standard.
