New survey reveals Christmas gift underwear blunders

With Christmas all wrapped up, a new survey conducted by qype.co.uk, Europe's largest local search and recommendation website, reveals how utterly wrong men got it when buying underwear for their partners this Christmas.

With more than 700,000 reviews and recomendations of stores ranging from major high street retailers to small independent boutiques across Europe, Qype asked 10,000 women how their partners coped with choosing underwear to match their tastes and exact size; and the results show that men made several major errors.

According to those surveyed, a staggering 62% of British blokes got the size completely wrong. Even worse, the survey found that 31% of men bought a bra for their partner two sizes under their real size. Furthermore, 29% of men also tripped up when it came to knickers, often buying sizes far too big. 36% of respondents said the underwear bought for them was far too raunchy for them to even consider wearing.

Colours were another bone of contention for woman. A massive 89% of those surveyed were unhappy with the colour chosen by their partner, and while the clear majority of women (97%) stated their favourite underwear colours are black or white, 53% said they received red lingerie, which they found "cheap and tacky".

The survey also asked ladies where their partners bought their underwear from this Christmas with 45% citing the old favourite Marks & Spencer's. However, surprisingly 31% of ladies said despite the credit crunch, their partners shopped at high end stores such as Agent Provocateur and independent sexy boutiques.

A further 12% of blokes shopped at Ann Summers for 'special smalls', with the general feeling being that this was money spent more for their own benefit than their partners.

At the other end of the rather worrying scale, 3% said their blokes had bought underwear from eBay!

Sophie MacLaren, Marketing Director at Qype said, "I'm certainly happier knowing that it's not just my man that always gets it wrong. The problem seems to be that our men never ask about our sizes or favourite colours, they appear to go on a hunch or simply go for what they like. I'm sure most women would be ok if their partner bought them a bra that was too big, but not the knickers. I am sure there are untold numbers of unhappy girls this Christmas"
