Moving Into a New Neighbourhood Checklist
Added: (Fri Jun 27 2008)
Moving to a new city can be stressful and when you've finally unpacked and find yourself in need of supplies you don't have the faintest idea where to go for them. But if you go out exploring with a tourist mindset, it will become an adventure instead of a hassle. To find maps of the area, go online and download information. If you haven't yet got Internet access, find an Internet café or go to the library. Most cities now have websites especially aimed at tourists that contain lots of information. The local newspaper will also have local ads for services you may require.
Once you can see from your map where the local library is, go there to find out lots more information. Libraries often have a local bulletin board advertising many activities. Why not join one that interests you while you're at it? You'll make some new friends and have a good time, too. Walking around the area is a great way to find out where everything is. But take your map with you and remember to write down your new address just in case you get lost.
Search the yellow pages under recreation centres to find out more about life in your new community. Maps and tourist guides will help you find out what's on and where it is. Once you become familiar with your new city, you'll feel more like a local and this will help you settle in much more quickly.
