Added: (Fri Sep 29 2006)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Baltimore, Maryland – September 11, 2006 - Mayo A. Shattuck, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Constellation Energy has teamed up with golfing great Arnold Palmer to raise money for several Maryland-based charities.

This collaboration is the result of the Constellation Energy Classic, a week long (9/11 – 9/17/2006) golf tournament. All proceeds generated by the Constellation Energy Classic will benefit the Baltimore Classic Fund, a nonprofit organization which has, since the tournament’s inaugural year in 2003, distributed more than $1.5 million to Maryland-based nonprofit organizations. Organizations benefiting this year include: The First Tee of Baltimore, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Living Classrooms Foundation, Union Memorial Sports Medicine, Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins, Special Olympics of Maryland and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation.

The event starts Monday, September 11, at 1 p.m. with a Pro-Am round at Hayfields Country Club in Hunt Valley Md., and runs through the week. This family event brings together new golfers, established golfers, amateur golfers, and the entire Baltimore community.

“Constellation Energy is committed to supporting the services and events that are important to the communities in which we live, work and do business,” said Mayo A. Shattuck, who is ranked by Golf Digest magazine as one of the Top 10 Golfing CEOs.

This event is only one of the many ways Constellation Energy supports charitable causes. Through the company’s formal giving mechanisms of Corporate Giving, Volunteerism, and Employee Giving, Constellation Energy, led by Mayo A. Shattuck, gave upwards of $10 million dollars during 2005.

As far as golfing goes, the drama and intrigue surrounding this event stems from the importance of finishes in determining eligibility for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Because eligibility is determined by the Top 30 golfers on the money list, this is a key tournament with a $1,700,000 purse, $225,000 of which is awarded to the winner. In addition to Palmer, the tournament features an accomplished field of 23 of the top 30 members of the Champions Tour.

Next year, Constellation Energy will be the new title sponsor of the 2007 Senior Players Championship, one of five Champions Tour majors. The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship will be played Oct. 1-7, 2007 at Baltimore Country Club, one of America’s oldest golf clubs, founded in 1898. The Championship will air on NBC.
