Made in the West Bank and Gaza

Added: (Mon Nov 21 2005)

The Freedom Clothing Project proudly announces the imminent arrival of what it believes to be the first clothing in the UK with a 'Made in the West Bank and Gaza' label.

'We are working closely with suppliers in Beit Jala near Bethlehem,' explained Joe Turner, founding Director 'and we hope this will be the start of a long term partnership which will make a big difference to the workers and their families.'

Notes To Editors:

1. The Freedom Clothing Project Ltd is a not-for-profit clothing co-operative dedicated to ethical trading and openess.

2. With up to 40% unemployment in places, lack of work is undoubtedly a cause of instability in the West Bank.

3. Despite recent economic problems, there is a fairly large apparel industry in the occupied West Bank manufacturing a variety of products. These are generally fairly small and family-owned where workers are treated well and conditions are good.
