Fifty years ago, the first MINI rolled off the production line at Cowley, now called Plant Oxford. Today, more than six million classic and new MINIs have been sold. To celebrate 50 years of MINI, two anniversary models have been created especially to mark the occasion, the MINI 50 Camden and the MINI 50 Mayfair. Unveiled at the MINI United Festival at Silverstone in May, the limited edition models are only available for sale until September 2010 and look set to become instant collector’s items for any MINI enthusiast. The MINI 50 Mayfair captures MINI’s rich heritage with all the appeal of a true classic, whilst the MINI 50 Camden looks to the future with dynamic styling and a striking appearance.
Both models are now available at Peter Vardy, a MINI dealer in Edinburgh, and orders are already being taken.
With a minimalist colour scheme of predominantly silver, white and black, the MINI 50 Camden has some unique design cues, including Camden logos stitched into the backrests as well as a distinctive 50th anniversary badge on the front grille. The 17-inch alloy wheels in an all-new White Shield design are exclusive to the MINI 50 Camden, whilst the bonnet stripes in an almost 3D silver stripe trim emphasise the car’s futuristic appearance. As a finishing touch, the side indicator frames accommodate a black and white Union Jack badge and Camden logo.
The second special edition, the MINI 50 Mayfair will revive a name that is familiar to many. The original MINI Mayfair was launched in 1982 and immediately earned a reputation for being one of the most luxurious MINIs available, something that its modern incarnation is hoping to continue. The MINI 50 Mayfair seeks to capture the rich heritage and traditional features of the classic MINI Mayfair whilst bringing it into the 21st Century. Unique retro styling features include 17-inch Infinity Stream alloy wheels finished in white, 3D Toffee metallic bonnet stripes and a discreet Mayfair logo positioned next to the car’s indicator lenses. The MINI 50 Mayfair is available in Hot Chocolate or Midnight Black metallic finishes with a contrasting white roof, or Pepper White solid paintwork with a black roof.
