Los Angeles firm purchases Tart Optical

“The more things change the more they stay the same.” It was a quote my grandfather would say each time the latest seasonal fashions would hit the store windows. He wasn’t too far off. Nor was he far off when he would state, “they just don’t make them like they used to.” Until now that is.

Former Los Angeles based optical supplier, Four Your Eyes, announced today the recent acquisition and re-launch of Tart Optical Enterprises. A spokesperson for Four Your Eyes states that the company purchased Tart Optical Enterprises with this very concept in mind. “The Tart name meant you could be sure of superior quality, comfort and fit, delivered with classic American style,” the representative explained in an interview. “Tart became an industry contender, known for excellent product at a fair price. Even after Tart closed its original operations, the brand remained a legendary maker of eyewear worldwide. Quality never goes out of style.”

Tart Optical Enterprises (OTE) was incorporated in Middletown, NY, during the late 1940’s and rose to be a key industry player throughout the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. As supplier to mid-level priced frames, OTE frames were a staple in the eyewear industry, offering sensible, stylish, and sturdy frames to the marketplace. Tart frames held up against the top competitors in the eyewear industry, offering fine craftsmanship and fine details only available through the Tart product line.

Tart Optical will officially re-launch under the new ownership. Products will be available through web presence, select retail distribution and preferred optical professionals.

Four Your Eyes founder, David Hart built a solid career in optical wear and sun glasses, fitting a host of celebrities and musicians throughout his career. The star studded list of clientele is impressive, including, Jakob Dylan, Elijah Wood, Jeff Goldblum, Tommy Lee, and more. He incorporated Four Your Eyes in 1983, basing his company in Venice Beach, CA. Hart built a reputation for finding the perfect eyewear that not only fit comfortably and performed well, but matched the personalities of those wearing the frames. It’s no wonder Hart helped “finish” the look of such notable screen characters as George Clooney in Good Night and Good Luck, Johnny Depp in The Secret Window, and even Rivers Cuomo – lead singer to the band Weezer.

The Tart product line is full of good old American flavor, with strong lines and gentle, sensible style. We are proud to reintroduce it to the market.”

And he is right. The Tart product line is classic, confident, and comfortable. From every angle, the Tart frames are appealing and dignified.

Four Your Eyes will feature the rebirth of Tarts top three styles: the Arnel, the F.D.R. and the Rosnir in classic black, brown, dark tortoise and dark olive. Select styles will also come in color fade styles.
