LAVENDER FIELDS - THIRD GENERATION FAMILY FARM RE-LAUNCH EVENT

Added: (Sun Jun 28 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Venue: Hartley Park Farm, Selborne, Nr. Alton, Hampshire, GU34 3HP
Date: Thursday 9th July 2009 2.00pm - 5.00pm

The re-launch of the lavender producing farm business Lavender Fields (formerly known as English Hampshire Lavender) will take place on Thursday 9th July. Tim and Anne Butler - third generation farmers - will host the launch party at Hartley Park Farm, Selborne for around 100 invited guests. Visitors will be able to experience the beautiful lavender fields in full bloom, learn how the oils are distilled using steam and incorporated into fragranced products. Afterwards, guests will be served Afternoon Tea, with a twist, in the farm gardens.

At the family-run farm - situated in the heart of the English countryside - four main varieties of English lavender are grown in over twenty-four acres. The lavender is harvested during the summer months and, for ‘bunching’, this is picked by hand. The oils from the plants are extracted in the farm distillery. These pure oils are incorporated into a range of light, delicately-perfumed bodycare products. Lavender Fields also produce a range of home fragrances, products and textiles such as room sprays, beeswax polish, candles and crisp white cotton pillows scented with lavender. The lavender is also used to flavour the Lavender Fields’ shortbread, meringues and other delicious foods.
All products are available at the pretty farm shop together with four main varieties of lavender plants to grow at home. Products will also be available on-line from the new Lavender Fields web site which will go live on 9th July.

Editor’s Notes:

• Tim and Anne Butler introduced English Lavender to Hartley Park Farm 10 years ago and their fields are now a local landmark, producing a blaze of colour in the summer months.
• Lavender has been used as a culinary herb since Roman times. It adds a delicate a flavour to foods from casseroles to vanilla ice cream.
• Rosemary is also grown at Hartley Park Farm - around one acre - and the oils are distilled at the farm.
• Hops have been grown at the farm since the 1700's until a change in the British brewing industry in the mid 1990’s. However, to maintain the family tradition, Tim and Anne have kept two acres of hop bines growing on the farm, which are now widely used for decoration.
• Lavender Fields holds four public Open Days each year. The dates this year are 3 and 4 July and 11 and 12 July. Private visits are also possible by prior arrangement.
