Increase in SGS GS certifications through economical downturn

Added: (Thu Mar 18 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - After starting back in 2005 with one GS certification awarded, the SGS Fimko (http://www.fi.sgs.com/fimko) division and its GS certifiers located in Europe and Asia registered, over three years, a remarkable increase in the number of companies applying for the GS certificate. This culminated at the end of 2009 with over 1,000 certificates granted in a single year.

Out of these, almost 90% were awarded to companies from the household appliance industry, the rest being granted mostly to manufacturers and components suppliers in the luminaries, office equipment and consumer electronics industries. The reason behind the rise in GS certifications lies in the package, service quality and accelerated certification process. After one test customers get a certification package that includes both the GS and CB certifications (http://www.ee.sgs.com/ee_index/iecee.htm). Supported by SGS’s brand name and its global network of testing labs, with the GS and CB certificates, the process of getting other local or regional certification marks has never been easier than before.

The demand for SGS GS certifications is expected to grow in 2010 with around 20% worldwide.

Advantages of the SGS GS mark
• Well-known in all the countries of the European Economic Area
• Proves that products comply with the GS safety standard and the special requirements of the GS certification scheme
• Provides the basis for certification in many other countries. A GS certified product must fulfill the requirements of the EMC directive.
• GS certification and SGS’s other services provide a reliable basis for the European Union CE marking
