Getting the Most Out of Camcorders

Added: (Tue May 06 2008)

Camcorders record in both Standard Play and Long Play. But if you switch from one format to the other on the same tape the outcome will be messy. Instead, have two tapes and use one for SP and one for LP. With LP you don't use as much tape, but SP will give you a better quality video.

Digital zoom is not good news on your camcorder. While it's fine for replaying on a tiny screen, once you put it on the TV or computer screen the picture will become extremely blurred and even distorted, because only the pixels are enlarged.

You might think your hands are as steady as the rock of Gibraltar, but if you don't want your movie to look as if there was a major earthquake happening use a tripod, especially for zooming in. You can get tiny, light tripods that fold up and fit in your pocket, so there's no excuse not to use one.

So now you're all set - well, almost set. Just remember to use the remote if you don't want to hear the sound of beetles and bugs clicking away in your pictures. It won't be bugs of course but the sound of you clicking away on your camcorder's buttons.
