Fast Bikes, Adventure Sport Aids and More - First UK Showing at Donington
04 June 2004 - A new powered mountain bike that will enable disabled people to enjoy the thrill of speed cycling will be available to try out at The Mobility Roadshow at Donington Park near Derby on 17th, 18th 19th June 2004. The LoAdstar has been designed for off-road use on various terrains and can travel at speeds of up to 20mph.
A canopy seat, which rests between two parallel mountain bikes, conceals the battery pack whilst the motor is hidden within the back wheel. Designed for use by people with almost any disability it can be steered and braked with the centrally placed joystick. A footrest provides maximum comfort.
LoAdstar designer, Glen Wicken, will also launch at the Roadshow the converted KMX, which promises to be another first for thrill seekers. Similar to a go-cart this three-wheeled buggy hovers close to the floor and can reach between 60-70mph downhill.
For the first time in Britain QuadTech will exhibit the Bombardier. Introduced from Canada this is the only converted quad bike in the UK that can be used on roads. Also available as a two-seater the bike can be driven by anyone with a road licence. Passenger test drives will be available at the show.
Also new is the vibrantly coloured funky Chunc chair that combines functionality with street cred for young wheelchair users. The chair’s modular seating system allows numerous adjustments to provide a tailored fit, and removal of the arm and back rests means the chair can be packed easily into a car.
To help disabled people to enjoy the theraputic pastime of horse riding Altitude Access has developed the Easi-Mount, launching at the show. Invented to accommodate a request from local stables in Nottinghamshire the mechanism will lift one wheelchair and two carers to horse height enabling those with even severe disabilities to enjoy the sport.
Altitude Access will be at the show providing demonstrations with the help of their friend George - a lifesize plastic horse. The company hope the Easi-Mount will help stables around the country comply with the Disability Discrimination Act when it comes into force in October.
In addition to these new products a wide range of cars from major motor manufacturers, all fitted with a variety of adaptations, will be available to test drive either as a driver or passenger at The Mobility Roadshow. The test drive facility is available whether people have a vehicle through the Motability scheme or as a private owner. Visitors wishing to take test drives simply need to complete a registration form on the day or in advance via the Roadshow website www.justmobility.co.uk/roadshow - and bring along their driving licence (full or provisional) to the show.
In total around 200 exhibitors will be showing switching systems, hand controls, hoists, rotating car seats, ramps, seat clamps, wheelchair restraints, new scooters and wheelchairs - hundreds of innovative ideas to help people with mobility problems to get around.
Entry is free and with a food court, crèche and entertainment for young and old, The Mobility Roadshow is a great day out for disabled people, their families and carers.
