Millions of British homes have a digital video camera and a computer with internet access – millions even have broadband access – it adds up to many hundreds and thousands of pounds worth of equipment and ongoing cost - but until now, there was no easy way for consumers to put them all to work together. So hours of video are left unwatched and unenjoyed. And though some of it will not be worth sharing, everyone knows there are some moments of absolute magic there.
The idea came to Cary when her baby Cameron was born. Having completed an engineering degree, Cary had previously worked in the video streaming industry. She hit on the idea for Mydeo after the birth of her son Cameron (who features prominently on the site). “I had some video and I just wanted to send it to some family and friends. It seemed unbelievable that it was so hard for me to get all the new footage of baby Cam to people without paying business rates and entering into long contracts. I know the process should be easy and I wanted to make it so easy that any mum in my position could share a piece of video, as easily as they do the shopping online.
And Cary wouldn’t let the idea lie - she put a plan together and took it to the DTI early in 2004.” Mydeo won a Research & Development grant for Technical Innovation from the Department of Trade and Industry's Small Business Service (SBS). That has allowed us to develop Mydeo into a very simple online service where you can do everything you want simply and securely online, including paying, and in just a few minutes have your video ready for your friends and family to enjoy.
Mydeo is technically advanced, innovative and efficient, but has been designed for consumers rather than IT experts.

Mydeo was founded in 2004 by Cary Marsh and Iain Millar. In April 2004 Mydeo won the Research & Development grant for Technical Innovation from the Department of Trade and Industry's Small Business Service, which aims to encourage innovation in England.
