LATE AVAILABILITY ON TOUR OF INDIA LED BY LORD HATTERSLEY

India specialist Cox & Kings still has availability on a tour of India led by former Cabinet Minister Lord Hattersley. Across the Ganges Plain with Lord Hattersley offers a fascinating odyssey through Indian history, with highlights including the architecture of Lucknow, the old Raj capital of Calcutta, the holy city of Varanasi and the iconic Taj Mahal. During the tour Lord Hattersley will offer anecdotes from his long political career, as well as in-depth talks focussing on the creation of the British Empire and India’s struggle for independence, subjects on which he has a wealth of knowledge.

The 13-night tour departs on 11 November 2006, and costs £2,795 per person, including flights, accommodation with breakfast, guided excursions, transfers and talks by Lord Hattersley.

“We are delighted to have such a high-profile and knowledgeable figure as Lord Hattersley leading this tour,” said Cox & Kings’ India Product Manager, Simon Grove. “He is obviously an excellent speaker, and as well as having an deep knowledge of Indian history he will be able to offer fascinating political anecdotes throughout the tour.”

The tour begins in Calcutta, where visits include the Victoria Memorial and Mother Theresa’s orphanage. The route then takes in Lucknow, famous for its British and Muslim monuments and the scene of fierce fighting during the 1857 Indian Mutiny, before heading to the holy city of Varanasi, on the Ganges River. After Varanasi highlights include the intricate erotic carvings at Khajuraho, Agra’s Taj Mahal and the capital Delhi, with its twin cities of Old and New Delhi and its splendid forts and palaces.
