All About Lingerie
Added: (Mon Apr 28 2008)
Lingerie is a term for ladies underwear or sleepwear that is visually appealing. Funnily enough, it does not apply to those very same garments if they are made of cool and comfy cotton. During the 20th century, lingerie changed from being rather bulky to become more formfitting. This was in part due to the different materials that could now be used. Nowadays, lingerie also encompasses garments that can be shown off as part of the outerwear. For instance straps and necklines can be seen and in the case of teddies, the whole top may be used as outerwear.
There is also more choice in sizes than there used to be. Finally, someone realised that women don't come in stock sizes and did something about it. In fact, it was one such woman, Sarah Tremellen, who in 1995 created Bravissimo, a company that specialised in making different sized undergarments. Others went for the made-to-measure angle, or decided to cater for say, petite sizes, but in a variety of fittings. All of this competition served to delight women, who could now be comfortable and look good by wearing lingerie that fitted properly. After all, those one size fits all garments are really a con.
