Airline Pilot Helps Others Overcome Fear of Flying

Want to overcome your fear of flying with help from a pilot?

International pilot Meryl Getline of Elizabeth, Colorado wants to help. She's offering a special CD course and e-book, called “Ground School for Passengers” that has helped countless people overcome their flying fears.

Together with co-author Captain Al Carmickle, a retired international B-747-400 captain, the pair has over seven decades of experience and over 60,000 hours of flight time.

The two-hour CD set is designed to educate people about the "mystery" sights, sounds, smells and sensations of flight. Basic facts of being a pilot and different causes of turbulence are just a few of the topics discussed. "Our goal is to help you overcome your fear of flying by our vantage point as captains for a major airline. We've isolated key fear factors and realize that lack of information and control issues are the real culprits," says Getline.

"Over the last year, through my USATODAY.com column, 'Ask The Captain' and my own website I've collected a tremendous number of concerns of nervous fliers and addressed virtually every worry that's ever been sent to me."

To get skeptics started, on her website located at http://www.flyingfearless.com, Getline offers a FREE REPORT titled “10 Things THIS Airline Captain Wants EVERY Anxious, Fearful or Just "Plane Curious" Flyer To Know BEFORE Your Next Flight!" Here's a sample of topics covered in her Ground School:

- The “Air Pocket” Myth
- The Truth About Turbulence, and How Pilots Deal With it in a Way Almost Completely Opposite From Passengers
- Do Airlines Cut Safety Corners During Bankruptcy?
- Are Regional Jets Safe?
- The #ONE Way People who Experience Fear Of Flying Can Help Ease Their Worries Each Time They Fly
“The course with Meryl gave me the facts and helped me to understand the processes the crew goes through,” writes Karen Wira, also of Louisville. “I can't wait to test my new-found confidence on my trip to India in a few weeks.”

“I am as passionate about flying today as I was over thirty years ago when I first realized being an airline pilot was what I was born to do. Success didn't come easy, but it's been an interesting, rewarding and colorful journey. Now I want to share that passion with my passengers and help them to enjoy flying just as I do,” says Captain Getline.

"Cap'n Meryl" is a popular and entertaining guest on such shows as "The View" and ABC's "News Now” and has given over one hundred radio interviews. She is also the author of The World At My Feet - The True (and Sometimes Hilarious) Adventures of a Lady Airline Captain. Synopsis A sequel to the book should be released in June 2006.
