100% happy & 100% palm free

Pressbox (Press Release) - Handmade Norfolk Soaps, a British company, who specialise in making luxury soap by hand, have been experimenting on 100% palm free soap recipes for the past year. Announcing complete success, the owners of the company Jonathan & Carol Goulding stated, “We are absolutely thrilled. Removing palm oil from soap, is not an easy task, but we feel it is an essential step forward. We cannot claim to make environmentally friendly products, if they contain any palm oil. The destruction of the rain forest, into palm plantations cannot be ignored, so by the end of this year, we are very pleased to say, we will be completely 100% palm free.”

According to the World Wildlife Fund, the tropical forest species index has declined by 25% in the last thirty years. Worldwide, 300 million hectares of tropical forest were converted to palm plantations during the last two decades, with indiscriminate forest clearing, posing a major threat to freshwater ecosystems, the livelihoods of forest dependant peoples and the habitats of endangered species such as elephants, rhinos, tigers and orang-utans.

Many people, would like to reduce the amount of palm oil in their daily lives, but identifying where it is, can be nearly impossible. Most, would be surprised to learn, it is in mass produced biscuits and bread, so even that lunch break sandwich can be a culprit, a portion of fish & chips, even lipstick. Clear labelling and public awareness would help, for a positive way forward.

Companies identifying themselves as 100% palm free should be encouraged. This would be a helpful approach, for a buying public keen to support the rain forest.
