100% PURE EXHILARATION
Horseback treks which lead to a refreshing tinnie!

Horse riding and pub-crawls don’t usually go hand in hand, yet one New Zealand company has combined the two, and come up with a winner! Pakiri Beach Horse Rides offers riding holidays and overnight safaris with a marked difference – each day’s riding session winds-up down at a local Kiwi watering hole.

The Pakiri Beach Horse Riding Pub Crawl combines exhilarating riding trails, which meander along stunning coastal paths and native bush, and relaxing stops at popular local public houses. These include the Mangawhai Pub, the Leigh Pub, the Matakana Tavern and the Brown Ball Pub.

Other Pakiri Beach Horse Rides range from the introductory One Hour Ride to the Seven Day Adventure. The daily sessions ride along the deserted Pakiri Beach and return through the dunes and Pohutukawa glades, taking in native bush and green farmland. Longer rides can be custom arranged to suit your group. The Five Day Warrior Trail is a cultural experience with an overnight Marae stay and The Seven Day Adventure follows the Great Northern Coast to Coast Ride. This epic seven day adventure on horseback takes you from the golden sands of the pacific on the East Coast, to the wild Tasman Sea and black sands of the West Coast.

Cattle drives for a minimum of six people can also be arranged during the summer months, and if you’re especially lucky, you may be able to ride your horse with the wild dolphins as they play in the waves.

If you can keep up on horseback, can you hold your own at the pub? The Kiwis are a sociable lot and if they insist on displaying their warm country hospitality down at the local, then quite frankly – it would be rude not to! A hearty and delicious meal made from local produce, washed down with a fine New Zealand wine is just the ticket to soothe away all those saddle sores.
