LookupUK.com – Site for Adoptees, Birth Parents,
Lost Friends & Family surpasses 1 Million Unique Users
PARAMUS, NJ, USA – 1/11/2001 09:00 GMT - Computer Security Consultants, a company located in the United States, announced today that it’s site, LookupUK.com (Lookup United Kingdom), has surpassed 1 million unique users.
“We can’t believe the success of the site”, said Paul Field, the owner and operator. “Our goal was to provide a unique place where searchers worldwide could find all the UK resources they need in one place; phone directories, e-mail address searches, helpful advice, a place to post your search information for others to view, and more importantly a place to bring the searchers together. We located the site in the US because the laws regarding data access and searching are not as stringent as back in the UK. We know many searchers have hit brick walls because of the UK’s Data Protection Act, and while we respect people’s right to privacy, we also think searchers, especially adoptees, have the right to know.”
However, since it’s public launch in August of 1999, the site has gained over one million unique users, over 90% of which are located in the UK. “With the user base this large, we have been able to start affiliating with some large database companies, and other relevant sponsors, to offer discounted search services that would cost many hundreds of pounds elsewhere on the net.”
“Our database currently has over 50,000 messages from people who are searching. We have many successes every day of the week.”
Newspapers and the media often use LookupUK.com for searches they are performing. The site has been featured most recently on ITV’s “Find Your Family”, where the show did a successful search for some old RAF members.
It has also been featured in the Daily Mail, the Daily Mirror, the Radio Times, The Express, all Metro editions, Internet Monthly magazine, Web User magazine, the Daily Telegraph, The Observer, Family Tree Magazine and on BBC’s The Search. British Telecom have also said it will also be featuring the site in its new Internet Community advertising campaign.
“There is no charge to use the site at all, and it can do nothing but help everyone involved. The more people that come, the more people we can help, and the higher the chance that someone you know will have already been at the site.”
The owner, Paul Field, an adoptee himself, is a well-known name on the message boards and Internet sites related to finding lost friends and relatives in the USA and UK. He has single-handedly been responsible for locating over sixteen hundred people in his four years as a searcher.
Computer Security Consultants is owned and operated by Paul Field, who grew up on the Isle of Wight, and later lived in Southampton. He currently lives in New Jersey, USA with his wife and children. The company has extensive experience creating UK related web sites. Among others, they recently developed the new online home of “The Walford Gazette”, which is the United State’s semi-official EastEnders fan newspaper.
