GlieseIT; providing Linux machines to the masses

GlieseIT, based in the United Kingdom, are now going to be building a wide range of netbooks, laptops, desktops, and servers - for both the consumer and the enterprise. Unlike many other manufacturers, GlieseIT systems will be exclusively powered by the open-source Linux operating system, and preloaded with free open-source software. This means that operating system and software updates will be free of charge for the lifetime of the machine.

Other computer providers will charge a substantial fee for an operating system upgrade, or to obtain the newest copy of a popular software title. With GlieseIT, that all changes, the buyer only has to pay the one-off-fee of the product price, direct from the GlieseIT Store, and the user will always receive free updates and be entitled to hundreds of thousands of free software titles available out there for the Linux platform.

Several big players in the online world are also backing the Linux operating system, including Google Inc, IBM, and Novell. Linux, based on UNIX, has proved to be a more stable and cost-effective choice over machines running the Windows or Macintosh systems available for a fee from Microsoft and Apple respectively.

GlieseIT assures customers that their machines will “just work” right out of the box, being instantly compatible with all cameras, printers, and popular hardware devices. The machines are capable, and can efficiently complete any task from the mundane such as word processing, right up to the high-end such as High Definition video editing. Software to do just that, and everything in between is preloaded on the systems.

At the moment, GlieseIT are only taking orders from UK customers on their online store, but customers in the USA and in other countries are advised to email the firm, who will then arrange for your machine to be delivered to a non-UK address.
