FileMaker Pro 5 Named to Home Office Computing 100

Added: (Thu Nov 25 1999)

Workgroup Solution From FileMaker, Inc. is the Only Database in the HOC 100 Productivity Category

'Home Office Computing,' the technology and productivity magazine for telecommuters, entrepreneurs, and the rest of today's work-at-home workforce, has chosen FileMaker Pro 5 one of the 100 best home office products of 1999. FileMaker Pro 5 is a leading database solution for workgroups and individuals managing information on the desktop and the Web.

Winners were picked based on value, performance, ease of use, innovation, and suitability for home offices during ceremonies held by the publication during Comdex in Los Vegas last week. FileMaker Pro 5 was the only database software cited in the HOC 100 productivity category. Other products in this category included Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Edition; Sun Microsystems StarOffice 5.1; Corel WordPerfect Office 2000; and Caere OmniPage Pro Scanner Suite.

"With 15 million Americans now telecommuting, two of three new businesses being started at home, and affordable PCs, e-mail, and the Internet letting more people bring work home nights and weekends, home offices are booming like never before," says Home Office Computing editor in chief Eric Grevstad. "FileMaker Pro hits the sweet spot for home office workers, so HOC's editors are happy to highlight it as one of the best of the year."

The new product strengthens the FileMaker lead in database web publishing, adding support for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), so browser users may now view or edit databases with almost exactly the same design elements in the original layouts. And to fit with corporate desktop standards, FileMaker Pro 5, now Microsoft Windows 2000 ready, features a completely new yet familiar interface that compliments the look and feel of Microsoft Office.
