New outsourcing approach brings Conxion’s Tier-1 network to the enterprise ¾ Microsoft and Oracle are first customers
London - August 23, 2001 ¾ Conxion Corp., the reliability and performance leader in managed hosting, has announced the European and US availability of EnterpriseXi, a new digital delivery service linking corporate datacentres to Conxion’s high-speed Tier 1 network. EnterpriseXi gives in-house hosting operations the same power and reach as the leading content delivery services and most extensive networks, while preserving customers’ existing investments in datacentres and personnel. Oracle and Microsoft are already using the service.
EnterpriseXi takes a network-centric approach that allows IT managers to outsource their content delivery and management of replication servers while retaining control of origin servers and content within their own datacentres. The service can also provide an easy migration path to managed hosting for companies who want to test Conxion’s expertise and customer service.
Oracle and Microsoft use Conxion’s EnterpriseXi service to deliver their flagship software applications to end-users, including Oracle’s 9i database and Microsoft Windows XP beta software. They benefit from the high-performance routing, bandwidth and delivery capabilities of Conxion’s Tier-1 network ¾ currently exceeding 23 Gb per second of exchange capacity ¾ which is equal to eight OC-48 circuits at full capacity.
EnterpriseXi is able to support the delivery of very large files or large libraries hosted on distributed storage utilities. Its infrastructure can also distribute Web applications that are hosted across multiple datacentres.
“With EnterpriseXi, IT Managers no longer have to choose between modernising their datacentres or outsourcing to accelerate their reach; they can have the best of both worlds,” said Antonio Salerno, CEO of Conxion. “The servers can be anywhere the customer wants them to be, and we’ll bring our network computing infrastructure to them. This is like bolting a high-performance rocket booster to your datacentre to optimise digital delivery.”
“EnterpriseXi is a great migratory strategy for companies not yet ready or willing to fully outsource to a managed hoster,” said Counse Broders, Senior Internet Services Analyst for Current Analysis. “Many companies recognise the benefits of managed hosting but may be nervous to try it. This service gives CIOs more choices to enhance their existing datacentre assets and to outsource infrastructure elements that are impractical to deploy internally.”
“In Europe many companies have in-house datacentres and are reluctant to give up that control and investment, but they are also looking for a more efficient way to deliver content,” says Philip Muls, Director of Sales and Marketing for Conxion in Europe. “EnterpriseXi provides the most cost effective solution.”
How EnterpriseXi Works
The EnterpriseXi service is hardware-agnostic. Companies can use any server and database platform for their corporate datacentre ¾ be it Sun, Microsoft, IBM, Linux, BEA or Oracle ¾ and plug into Conxion’s network. Other content delivery solutions require companies to choose from a short list of supported server platforms, and some even require the modification of the application software itself.
EnterpriseXi works in two ways:
· Businesses can link their servers in corporate datacentres with synchronised servers distributed across Conxion’s international Tier-1 network, adding built-in redundancy and the high-performance benefits of Conxion’s HotRouteTM technology that ensures users are directed to the best server for optimum delivery.
· Customers who do not need to replicate content can also use the EnterpriseXi service to speed delivery of large software files, streaming media and content generated from applications to their customers. Server capacity can be added on demand.
EnterpriseXi service has three components:
· The enterprise origin servers within the customer’s datacentre.
· A high-capacity Conxion circuit linking the customer’s datacentre to Conxion’s network.
· A cluster of synchronised servers distributed across Conxion’s Tier-1 network with HotRoute, Conxion’s network-centric, load-balancing content delivery optimiser.
― Conxion’s HotRoute digital delivery technology features adaptive network intelligence. HotRoute sees every route on the global Internet and listens to Internet traffic conditions to determine the most direct path to deliver the content to the end-user’s location. HotRoute is like a real-time MapQuest for packet delivery.
