Antepo’s new software offers end-user access to messaging and presence information from Java-enabled handsets over wireless networks.
NEW YORK, NY and PARIS, France (June 21st, 2001) – Antepo today announces the release of a J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition)-compliant Instant Messaging solution for wireless carriers and handset manufacturers. J2ME is an application environment for devices with limited memory space (such as pagers, mobile phones, PDAs, etc) allowing programs to run independently from device hardware or operating systems. This initiative addresses the emerging market for Java-enabled wireless devices being deployed over carrier networks.
“Antepo’s mission is to bring mobility to messaging and presence management. While we initially addressed the SMS and WAP channels as priorities, we today view J2ME as a very powerful alternative, bringing improved UI (user interface) experience to market and complementing our existing software applications.” explains Max Seguineau, Chairman and CEO. “We are eager to commence large-scale deployment trials with carriers and handset manufacturers to leverage the advent of “always-on” connectivity.”
This new client is compliant with the Jabber Open Source Instant Messaging protocol (XMPP), which Antepo fully supports and uses as its core development environment, and can therefore connect to any Jabber-based server platform such as the one Antepo currently offers. The application leverages mobile devices’ local computation, storage and network connectivity features to deliver better performance and functionality than browser-based solutions while controlling server-based information.
Antepo’s J2ME-compliant Instant Messaging client can be implemented as an add-on to Antepo’s carrier-oriented mobile Instant Messaging suite or as a standalone value-added service for handset manufacturers.
