Pressbox (Press Release) - Top computer manufacturers to use ATI 4X AGP implementation

TORONTO, Nov. 15 /CNW-PRN/ - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) today announced the computer industry's fullest range of products to support the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) 4X specification, products that are perfectly balanced for the just-announced Intel i820 AGP 4X chipset.

ATI's extensive range of 4X products, for the high to mid-range of the market, include the ATI RAGE(TM) 128 Pro graphics accelerator chip and the RAGE Fury Pro(TM) graphics board. All ATI 4X products are designed for both commercial and consumer applications and through the full benefit of the AGP 4X specification will deliver the 3D graphics acceleration required for high end CAD use and PC gaming. ATI, long the leader in integration, also provides unsurpassed 2D and video acceleration in all its products.

"Intel has worked closely with companies such as ATI to bring high performance 3D graphics capabilities to the PC platform," said Pat Gelsinger, Vice President and General Manager of Intel Corporation's Desktop Products Group. "Supported by the Intel 820 Chipset, AGP 4X technology provides the system bandwidth to balance the performance of the fastest Intel Pentium (R) III processors and delivers new levels of realism to the Internet and 3D gaming experience."

Over the next several weeks, ATI will announce a number of design wins for its AGP 4X products that will see ATI inside many of the most popular computer systems this fall, including five of the top 10 worldwide computer manufacturers.

In addition to supporting AGP 4X, the RAGE 128 Pro chip, featuring 128-bit, dual pipelined architecture, also provides true 32-bit 3D rendering as well as 32 bpp true color, hardware accelerated DVD and support for digital flat panel monitors.

"The 4X AGP specification is a further key development in delivering outstanding 3D graphics and multimedia to mainstream computer systems," said Phil Eisler, Director of Component Marketing, ATI. "ATI is the long standing leader in the AGP marketplace and our current AGP 4X products will soon be joined by a number of new offerings, allowing OEMs and retail customers to easily migrate to the AGP 4X specification."

From the outset, ATI has been a chief proponent of the AGP bus, including the full AGP 4X specification. ATI worked with Intel on the development of AGP and as a result, can ensure full operability with future AGP 4X chipsets from Intel.
