Winners of CorpComms Awards 2006 announced

Added: (Thu Dec 07 2006)

London, December 7, 2006 – Southern Water’s ‘Engaging the public to beat the drought’ campaign won the top prize at CorpComms magazine’s first excellence in corporate communications awards. The publication dedicated to the UK’s corporate communications professionals celebrated the winners of the awards, as selected by a panel of judges, at a black-tie event on December 6 at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London. The event was hosted by comedian Ed Byrne.

Southern Water’s campaign, with agencies John Connors Press Associates, Springboard marketing, LLM Communications, Facepack Theatre Company, Talisman Communications, Visicom Digital Media and The Garage, won the grand prix for best overall communications. Companies were awarded in twelve categories including best communications by a not-for-profit organization, won by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s ‘Save our soles day’, with Trimedia Communications UK; best public sector communications, won by Allerdale Borough Council’s ‘Making Allerdale a great place to live, work and visit’ scheme, with agency Firpress Group; best employee communications, won by Aegon UK for its ‘On’ integrated communications approach, with Melville & Young; and best rebranding exercise, won by Nats for its ‘Our story – Rebranding from public to private’ campaign. A comprehensive list of winning and highly commended companies is attached.

The awards follow CorpComms’ tremendous success since its launch in June 2004. Alistair Nichols, publisher of CorpComms, comments: ‘I have been delighted at how quickly the corporate communications community has taken these awards to heart. For an inaugural event, the judges were very impressed with the hard work and dedication that went into the entries. The CorpComms Awards have quickly become a benchmark for excellence, and I’m sure the standard will be set even higher next year.’

Helen Dunne, editor of CorpComms, adds: ‘There has been a phenomenal response to the inaugural CorpComms Awards. The entries demonstrated the huge wealth of talent and resources in the industry. They also proved that the size of the budget is not directly linked to the success of the campaign.’

A panel of top industry professionals selected the winners. The judges were Christina Mills, head of media relations, Royal Bank of Scotland; Emma Byrne, director of corporate communications, Alliance Boots; Suzanne Peck, chairman, CiB; Stephen Watson, managing director, CTN Communications, Simon Bailey, Enterprise IG; Tom Hampson Bellon, Merlin Financial PR; Mark Fox, director of communications, BVCA; Peter Baillie, director of corporate communications, GKN; and Janet Hull, head of marketing, IPA. The judges for the best financial and business media relations award were Ian King, city editor, The Sun; Fiona Walsh, business editor, Guardian Online; Robert Miller, The Daily Telegraph; and Guy Ruddle, podcast editor, The Daily Telegraph.
