NBC's "Today" show weatherman and feature reporter Al Roker will host the "Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks® Spectacular" on Monday, July 4th, 9-10 p.m. ET (all time zones). Roker joins exclusive musical performer Mariah Carey and Donald Trump ("The Apprentice") to celebrate the nation's birthday and largest fireworks display, which will be broadcast in High Definition. "I'm so excited to be taking part in something as quintessentially American as the 'Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks® Spectacular,'" said Roker. "Adding this event to co-hosting the 'Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade,' 'The Rose Parade,' and 'Christmas In Rockefeller Center' officially gives me the title of 'Mr. Holiday.'" "This experience, without a doubt, will be my biggest 'firing' ever," quipped Trump.
Carey will serve as the exclusive musical guest and will perform "America the Beautiful," as well as "Shake it Off" and "We Belong Together" from her recent Island Def Jam album "The Emancipation of Mimi." Trump will then lead the count down and direct his biggest "firing" ever when he gives the command to launch the stunning display. This year's "Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks® Spectacular" consists of almost 40,000 shells that will be launched from seven firing locations stretching from the United Nations to the Brooklyn Bridge to the East River. The New York skyline will be filled with an astonishing array of Flickering Butterflies, Glittering Gems, Blooming Chrysanthemums, UFO's, Giant Silver Swallows, Bursting Comets, Hearts, Stars, and Streamers - many exploding as high as 1,000 feet in the air. Additionally, an Armed forces tribute will feature firework shells never before seen in the United States. The visual artistry will be masterfully choreographed and synchronized to a moving, original score performed by Skitch Henderson and The New York Pops titled "American Medley."
Roker has been the weather and feature reporter on NBC News' Today since January 1996. Until January of 2000, Roker also served as the weekday weather forecaster for News Channel 4's early evening newscast Live at 5 on WNBC-TV, NBC's flagship owned and operated station in New York City. Raised in Queens, New York, Roker received his B.A. in Communications from the State University at Oswego in 1976, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the school in 1998. He resides in Manhattan with his wife, ABC News 20/20 Correspondent, Deborah Roberts, and has two daughters and one son.
