Independent Vancouver Retailer Promotes Locally Made Products

Dream Designs, a long-time Vancouver retailer, is highlighting the importance of shopping locally and buying products that are made in Vancouver with their “Buy Local and Save” campaign.
“We want to offer Vancouverites the opportunity to buy local and save; save money, the local economy, and the environment,” says Bei Linda Tang, Dream Designs’ owner and creative director. When you shop at your neighborhood retailer for locally made products everyone wins: the local economy is supported, residents are employed, and consumers get well-made items. Shopping locally also benefits the environment as there is less packaging waste and transportation-related pollution.
“With the Canadian dollar doing well, Canadian consumers are flooding across the border to take advantage of US goods being more affordable than they have been in years,” says Tang. “But if local producers and retailers are not able to sell out of this season’s products due to a decreased number of shoppers, the local community may eventually suffer bankruptcies, job loss, and an economic downturn.”
Dream Designs is running its “Buy Local and Save” campaign through the month of November at its current store (956 Commercial Drive, 604.254.5012) and online at www.dreamdesigns.ca. The promotion will feature locally made organic and natural bedding, sleepwear, and yoga products which are manufactured in-house at Dream Designs’ Vancouver workshop, as well as several other “Made in Vancouver” lines.
