AN award-winning Warwickshire firm is helping to spearhead a campaign encourage hundreds of Coventry businesses to boost their involvement within the community.

Rugby-based Zarr Internet Services has developed the website for the Coventry Business Charter which is due to be launched at the end of the month (September) with the aim of recruiting 250 companies to the scheme in 18 months.

The Charter, which is being launched by The Coventry Partnership, is aimed at encouraging businesses and other organisations across the city to pledge to carry out activities to support the delivery of the Coventry Community Plan – a blueprint working towards improving the lives of people working and living in the city.

Participating businesses and organisations will receive recognition in the form of a charter or certificate and will also benefit from networking opportunities, employee development and assisting in regenerating local communities and economies.

The Charter has been developed through discussions between Coventry Partnership, Business In The Community (BITC) and Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber.

Zarr Internet Services has developed the web-based system to allow businesses and organisations pledge online to get involved and complete Community Plan activities. A similar approach in Birmingham has seen businesses involved in community projects ranging from crime reduction measures to recycling and improving local amenities.

Hannah Reynolds, managing director of Zarr Internet Services, said: “Developing the website for a project which has the potential of making such a huge impact in Coventry has been a pleasure for the Zarr team to work on.

“The website is an important part of the project as it’s where businesses will sign up to take part and have the chance to look at a menu of objectives. We needed to make it functional and easy to navigate and hopefully it will help encourage as many businesses as possible take part in such a worthwhile scheme.”

Zarr Internet Services was set up by Mrs Reynolds and husband Mark five years ago and specialises in database-driven websites. In its first year it was featured in the BT Vision 100 Index for the top 100 visionary companies in the UK.
