DETROIT, Michigan (July 13, 2010) Witness lives change at the 3rd Annual “You are the Gift Conference”. This special event will bring together about 500 girls, 11-16, to explore and celebrate self-esteem and confidence. The focus of this year’s conference is on childhood obesity and the importance of taking care of one’s body through healthy eating, exercise and good hygiene. This exciting two-day event will take place at Renaissance High School, at Outer Drive, Detroit, MI 48221, on Friday and Saturday, August 6th and 7th, 2010 from 9:00am-3pm.
Marlena Daniel, who is the CEO and Founder of the Freedom House Resource Center, a non-profit organization that provides peer-to-peer recovery support services to alcohol and drug addicted clients is our keynote speaker. Her impressive journey of success over abuse, poverty, drugs and alcohol addiction uniquely qualifies her in the area of human achievement and personal strength. Her story and the dynamic way she shares it, demonstrate the true power of determination.
The conference kicks off on Friday with an all day sports camp from 9:00am – 2:00pm. There will be plenty of fun physical activities to enjoy such as volleyball, a hula-hoop contest and much more. On Saturday from 9:00am - 3:00 pm the girls will attend empowering workshops, enjoy cooking demonstrations from local female chefs, and experience a few surprises. A continental breakfast and lunch is being provided and there will be giveaways and prizes. In addition, there will be raffle drawings for a chance to win a gift card to one of several popular restaurants, not to mention goodie bags filled with journals and beauty products for every girl!
The day’s MC will be the amazing Anqunette Jamison from Fox2 News. Numerous other inspirational women like Kimberly Benjamin and Shaunee Parker- Brannan will also share their success stories.
