ZEDA pass the IMI test

NOTTINGHAM, 23TH April, 2007 The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the professional association for individuals working in the motor industry and the sectors largest awarding body for vocational qualifications, has turned to IT services company, ZEDA, to provide it with hosting and server support for its website and online testing applications.
The need to have a robust server solution to allow over 70,000 online examinations to be taken per year and a proactive infrastructure management service, led to ZEDA being chosen as the IMIs preferred supplier. Throughout the 3 year contract, ZEDA will be responsible for remotely managing and supporting the IMIs online applications.
A core objective is to provide a one-stop-shop for maintaining and further enhancing the efficiency of the IMIs on-line testing platform. With over 300 approved centres logging onto its server in order for students to take examinations, the service that ZEDA provides is critical to the IMIs awarding body function. In addition, ZEDAs service will ensure the IMI benefits from increased security and legal protection.
Allan Tyrer, IMI finance director and company secretary, commented:
The IMI is in a period of extensive growth and as a pioneer of on-line testing within the automotive sector, we need to ensure we stay one step ahead for the benefit of our customers and their candidates. The IMI will be looking to ZEDA to provide the highest level of assistance with all our IT infrastructure.
Although ZEDA will predominantly provide server hosting and support, the team will also collaborate with the IT department at the IMI to develop new accreditation systems and support the organisation as it expands.
Rapid growth can place a strain on IT resources, says Peter Collinson, Managing Director at ZEDA. Outsourcing IT functions enables existing IT staff to focus on more strategic and value-added projects and ZEDAs server management service lends itself to this model very well.
