Branding and Corporate Identity
A brand is the embodiment of the values your company represents and can almost be seen as the company’s personal character. As much as marketers should try to control the brand, most importantly it is held in the minds of your customers and potential customers. If the perceived brand value is high then you will have many advantages, usually concerning pricing and positioning.
We live in a world of increasing competition and one way we reduce the overwhelming amount of choice we have, is to identify with brands and brand values. People buy designer labels because they have been effective in generating high brand values among their consumers.
Brands can be used to differentiate one set of services or products from another. They are the value the consumer places upon the values of the supplier.
A corporate identity is the manifestation of the communication media of the brand values by the company. It encompasses logo design, the logo on your letterhead and their layout, business cards and your business name. Your corporate identity stretches from your website to the design of the side of the company delivery van.
To build a brand you need to determine how you wish others to perceive you. What values they place on your services or products and if they live up to those expectations. These need to be carefully examined, researched and controlled as much as possible.
