UNISME delegation called on President United nations Association of Pakistan

KARACHI (October 23 2005): A 12-member delegation of SMEs comprising representatives of Union of Small & Medium Enterprises (UNISME) called on the President of United Nations Association of Pakistan (UNAP) Iqbal Chishti at UNAP Secretariat Chishti Centre here on Saturday and discussed the Role of SMEs in Building Townships.
He welcomed Unisame committee members and said that UNAP is looking forward to having the UNISAME team on its agenda for relief work to be carried out initially in District Manshera called JABBA which is completely destroyed. Iqbal Chisti thanked UNISAME for participation at a short notice and introduced UNAP and its structure stating that the first President was Begum Liaquat Ali Khan in 1948. He further out lined the task being performed specially in the aftermath of the earth quake by providing through its efforts the relief goods to the army who deliver it at the places in AJK.
Mr. Chishti, appreciated initiatives the entrepreneurs taking for promotion of humanitarian activities in the earthquake disaster province and said progress in that respect was quite encouraging yet they had to meet challenges being confronted due to bad weather.
UNAP wants to provide shelter (prefab houses), medicines, and other necessities of life to be a model to others and to show how best the relief can be provided. He therefore, wants to involve professionals and experts to help in achieving the objective, which will bring good name to the efforts and the country. UNAP will monitor all expenses through the committee. He also wants to present the whole idea to the President of Pakistan when the plan is ready in this month and ask for his blessings.
Responding to certain proposals put forward by the delegates a member pointed out that UNAP through it’s high office should obtain an assurance that the Govt. will assist us in our efforts and will not dislodge us as this project will be for nearly 10 years. The President of UNAP also advised them to come out with concrete suggestions and assured them to present the whole scheme to the President of Pakistan General Pervaiz Musharaff.
Iqbal Chisti was assisted by Mrs Fauzia Tariq Executive Director, Harold Daniel Resident Director, and members of the secretariat.
Subsequently, the President of UNISAME, Zulfikar Thaver thanked UNAP and offered all help as he said his team members are experts in their own field from infrastructure, management , energy and in all the other activities connected with it. Moreover, it was also highlighted that the real test is of monitoring and management of the project for which the team of UNISAME is fully qualified. Moreover, this will be a role model for other SME’s and it will generate jobs for the displaced people of the area particularly the villagers of the adopted village.

In the end a committee was formed with Iqbal Chisti President UNAP as Chairman, and members from UNISAME & UNAP to carry out full fledged rehabilitation, reconstruction and rebuilding work in selected areas.
Mr. Asif Yousuf, Mr. Amin Bakali, Mr. Abdul Aziz Ghaffar, Mr. Salman Bandukda, Colonel Adeel Kazi (Retd), Chuadhry Farooq, Chuadhry Masood, Zafar Chaudary, Sikander M. Khan, Javed Nasir and Shahid Quareshi represented UNISME.
