Thames Laboratories introduces online asbestos forum
Added: (Thu Aug 30 2007)
Leading asbestos consultancy Thames Laboratories has introduced a new online forum for property owners/managers to discuss the management of asbestos. Since the introduction of the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2006) (CAR 2006) there has been significant confusion over what asbestos-containing materials are deemed safe and who has responsibility over those working with asbestos. The forum is designed to act as an online resource to discuss the issues raised by the new regulations, give property mangers the opportunity to share their experiences and receive advice from the experts at Thames Laboratories.
Thames Laboratories Managing Director John Richards commented:
"The introduction OF CAR 2006 moved the bar in terms of what materials are considered hazardous so, while there is plenty of dangerous asbestos in circulation, some asbestos-containing materials - specifically textured coatings - are still being used. Naturally this is confusing for people who are tasked with managing asbestos on their properties.
"There were also changes to rules governing duty to manage which meant that it could be up to a property manger to ensure that outside contractors had recieved asbestos training. We were getting a number of calls and emails from clients who just didn't know where they stood so we decided to introduce the forum for people to discuss these issues."
