03 June 2010 – Smurfit Kappa Recycling, one of the largest recyclers of paper and card in the UK, has appointed Ian Halson to the new role of local authorities business development manager.

Ian Halson brings many years’ experience of paper recycling in the local authority sector to Smurfit Kappa Recycling. He joins from Abitibi Bowater Recycling, where he was business development manager and worked closely with a number of local authorities. Prior to joining the paper recycling industry Ian worked for Harborough District Council for fifteen years, ultimately becoming head of waste management at the council.

“Smurfit Kappa Recycling has worked very successfully with a number of local authorities to help increase paper and cardboard recycling, reduce waste to landfill and cut carbon emissions and we are keen to expand our work in this sector,” said the company’s managing director, Simon Weston. “Ian Halson’s appointment as our dedicated business development manager for our local authority partners will enable us to leverage his extensive experience and deep understanding of the recycling and waste management challenges facing local authorities today.”
