New information service for those experiencing redundancy

Added: (Sun Oct 02 2005)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Redundancy due to corporate re-structuring and the vagaries of the economy is a pretty common occurrence these days, the ‘job for life’ myth has been well and truly exploded. Getting a suitable new job for the over ‘40’s has never been harder despite the potential impact of the much touted demographic time-bomb and the impending new Age Discrimination legislation.
Though larger businesses are used to providing outplacement help for employees they have had to make redundant, there is little targeted help on offer for the estimated 12.6 million people employed by UK SME's. A new, free information site has been launched to provide practical help and advice which could be a boon for Human Resource Professionals and MD's of smaller companies as well as those employees experiencing redundancy. Inspired by Sunday Times column 'Aftershock' written by Andrew Taylor, it has already attracted thousands of visitors. "The most popular pages are related to job searching advice" said founder and editor Janet Davies, "but more interestingly, significant numbers are reading the 'Exit Plan', 'Be your own Boss' and 'Re-training' pages which suggests that many may be visting the site because of the possibility of redundancy and a desire to take more control over their lives".
