Manchester and Florida. June 3rd 2010
The Copernicus International consulting network has substantially enhanced its coverage of the USA market following the completion of their cooperation agreement with the Business Development Group of North America. Offices in the USA, South America and shortly in Canada will now be able to represent the interests of Copernicus clients around the globe effectively, efficiently and cost effectively on the ground in the US.
The BDG “Gateway” offices will provide enhanced Copernicus market entry services such as opportunity assessment, feasibility studies, location analysis, partner identification, incubation centre, sales and marketing support to companies from all corners of the Globe who are looking to enter the dynamic US market, and vice versa from the USA to global markets via the expanding Copernicus international offices. With this in mind the organization will actively promote international trade opportunities for US market strategic entry, distribution potential and of course mutual collaboration. These will include a series of International Business Days, Business Clinics and Increasing Market Awareness seminars both in the US and the multiple international markets where Copernicus is actively represented.
Talking about agreement, David Warr, President of BDG who will oversee the expansion of the network in the US in conjunction with Copernicus, said that “It is an agreement where two firms that are well-known, respected and with complementary areas of practice will combine their experience and skill sets and generate business opportunities for our communal clients. This is an important step towards assisting overseas companies, especially SMEs in Doing Business with the US and also a channel for USA Companies as they expand into new overseas territories”
Colin Fell, Group Managing Director of Copernicus Consulting said that “We are very excited about this development. Over the past few years, we have seen increasing interest from European and Asian companies to enter the US market and take advantage of the sheer size and scale of the economy. There is constant dialogue between the US and the various European Governments to encourage bilateral Trade and Investment. There have been a set of bilateral agreements which have been signed to reduce the burden of double taxation and provide preference to respective countries goods and services. Hence it is likely that we may see more European companies looking to enter the US market and vice versa. What is more our clients in India, Asia and the UAE will also benefit from the availability of professional India based advice, while simultaneously creating opportunities for US companies wishing to increase their market share in the new wider EU market, Russia, Asia and Africa where Copernicus has active local representation.”
There is an obvious increasing number in overseas companies and corporate's, specifically from the UK now wishing to enter USA market. For example the number being handled by the authorities here in Florida alone last year (180).
The USA market is a very large portion of the world market target for development and many overseas companies are focusing upon the market but have severe difficulties in the process of understanding American business practice, the markets and overall trading.
It is becoming apparent to UK and European business that they are technically capable of winning considerable business or partnering with large, blue-chip US companies. UK management recognise the opportunities in the USA, but may be unable to take full advantage of them from the UK and they need to set up a base in the USA, in order to exploit the opportunities. Copernicus and Gateway America provides such support along with its many market entry and development services.
Whilst some UK companies may already sell into the USA market, they are predominantly largely a UK-based business with no formal presence in the USA. This forms a barrier to exploiting the potential of the market. Specific issues, in common with any similar business, include:
• business development is carried out by extended and infrequent business trips by personnel who are also key to a broader strategic development
• sales and technical support are both carried out largely at arm’s-length from the UK, with occasional visits by personnel who are also key to the health of the home market
• whilst developments in IT communications have made this possible, time-zone differences mean contact time is drastically shortened and introduce an inherent ‘drag’ in responding to customers’ needs
• many customers are sensitive to investing in ‘foreign’ concepts without the comfort of local support
• added to all of this, USA businesses have a definite preference for buying from within the USA, and this has only increased since the events of 11 September 2001. Many US customers of present and past customers have indicated that any real longer-term business proposition will need to be based on a commitment to ‘local’ representation.
It is now intended to establish a combined alliance portfolio of services specifically directed at the ‘New to USA’ corporations. The operation of Copernicus consulting - USA headquarters in Orlando would offer both fully comprehensive and dedicated market entry evaluation, development and USA business management to specifically focused and identified customers initially from the UK then from throughout Europe. Both practitioners are well qualified, capable and connected and have a good knowledge of their respective marketplace in the USA and the UK. They have successfully developed and sold comprehensive and innovative services into their respective markets, and have an existing customer base which will give the new alliance a revenue stream from day one.
