Germany In Nanotechnology-Future with Visions

Added: (Mon Dec 19 2005)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Nanotechnology relates to the world's smallest things. One nanometer is a millionth part of a millimeter, even the diameter of a human hair is fifty thousand times bigger. The application of this technology is huge.

It is believed that in the near future, nanotechnology will spread immensely and not be restricted to only a few areas. It is perceived that about $1 trillion products will be affected by nanotechnology in 10-15 years from now. The affected products will be advanced materials, medicines, pharmaceuticals, environment, energy conservation, and national security.

According to a market research report, "The World Nanotechnology Market 2005" published by RNCOS, Germany holds the third position in nanotechnology just after Japan. In 1998 investment in R&D for nanotechnology was _ 27.5 million, while in 2005 it amounts to _130 million. Besides, there has been a funding of _146 million from various research institutes.

Citing an analogy, a member of the Federal Ministry of Science and technology in Germany said that nanotechnology would be to this century what ball bearings were to the last. This technology was an unrecognized enabler of a new era of human invention.

The basic properties of all materials and devices around us are defined at the nanoscale indicating nanotechnology to be the future technology. Its motto is "ever smaller, ever faster".
